FIlippo is an Italian wine and food expert whose passion is sharing his knowledge with people around the world in creative and experiential ways. He is an avid student of all things food and wine, a creative entrepreneur as the co-owner of a travel company and cooking school, and a happy father!

Filippo leads private wine tours throughout Italy. He is available to guide singles or couples, groups of friends (even kids are welcome!) and larger groups such as wine clubs. His personal touch in hand selecting wineries and restaurants and his relaxed style allow for people with any level of wine knowledge to enjoy a day or week spent with him and come away having learned and experienced something new. Filippo is based in Tuscany, but leads tours all over Italy from Piedmont and Umbria to Puglia and Sicily.
On the corporate front, Filippo leads corporate wine events and wine seminars, turning everyone from CEOs and coorporate executives to sales team members into wine lovers with his dynamic, fun, and unpretentious approach to wine. As a master of ceremonies to very large events, Filippo knows how to get command of a crowd and bring them along in his journey through wine and food.

Filippo believes that wine is intrinsic to culture and history. Throughout the ages, it has acted as a universal glue that binds humans together through shared experiences. If you study wine, you are studying the evolution of human society. Filippo has been a wine educator for New York University, the University of Siena, Politecnico di Milano, the Università Bocconi of Milano, the Accademia of Palazzo al Piano, Alma Graduate School, the University of Bologna, and The National Gallery.

Filippo writes frequently for prominent European and American wine publications including the Decanter Magazine and Wine For Normal People. He tastes and reviews a few thousand wines per year. He is always bursting with the excitement of new discoveries and doesn’t want to keep them all to himself.

Over the past 20 years, Filippo has built a vast personal network of Italian winemakers and top restauranteurs which he is ready  to share with you. He has opened hundreds of the oldest and rarest wines, giving him a very broad perspective of how a wine can age and vintage potential. Filippo's deep knowledge and experience allow him to be able to seek out and help you experience the oldest and rarest vintages with a confidence only he possesses.

Filippo is an ambassador to the world for Italian fine wine and gourmet food. He has traveled to countries such as the United States, China, Russia, Canada, and Korea, bringing with him Italian wine and gourmet food history, personal anecdotes, and firm grasp of complex technical aspects that he is able to translate into layman's terms. His presentation style is easily adapted whether he is in a private home with a group of collectors, with museum patrons at the MET or with a group of bankers in a banquet hall for 500. One of Filippo's favorite projects is the ongoing Italy At Your Table, an American road show. Filippo has put on this series of events multiple times in the last decade, bringing ten top Italian wines and fantastic Italian gourmet foods on a road show to various cities in the US - with incredible results!

“Grape”
Filippo Bartolotta holds an M.A. in Economics from the University of Florence and a Diploma from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust of London. His career in the wine world started at London's Vinopolis, where he was managed corporate wine tasting. From there he became a tasting judge for UK’s Decanter Magazine. In 1999, he co-founded Le Baccanti Tours, Italy's premier enogastronomic travel and event agency and in 2014 opened one of Florence’s most sought after cooking school MaMa Florence.

Filippo is a [candid] journalist, inspiring educator, and passionate consumer! Born in Florence, Italy, he has dedicated his professional life to tasting wines from every nook and cranny of Italy, uncovering gems, establishing relationships with wine makers, then sharing his knowledge and secrets with his friends, clients, readers, and students. Filippo’s love for the fermented juice is infectious and he’ll always leave you eager to try more!

Filippo believes where there’s wine, there’s a home.

He’s travelled near and far in his pursuit to find the perfect combinations of food and wine. Within Italy, he has traveled to every wine region and visited all kinds of cellars, meeting directly with wine makers to learn about their processes and philosophies. Outside of Italy, he had lived in Den Hague (Holland), New York and London. In his spare time, you’ll find him hunting down street food in Bali or that perfect dumpling in Shanghai.

Filippo is on tasting panels, attends all the most important wine preview parties and dines in all the best Italian restaurants. He uses this exceptional wealth of knowledge and daily experiences in the Italian wine and food world to enrich and inform everyone from visitors to Italy who do wine tours with him, to students who he teaches about wine in the classroom, to attendees at his private and corporate events.
